“Kara and Tanja are the feminist best friends you wish you had. Together, they are ‘crushing the patriarchy’ by shining a light on the money issues that are unique to women.”
— Forbes Magazine, June 24, 2018
Hey there!
We’re Kara and Tanja, a couple of friends from different generations who love talking money and taking down the patriarchy.
The Fairer Cents is an economics and finance podcast about badass women and their money stories — but not the usual stories. The usual suspect experts get enough airtime elsewhere, and we’re way more interested in hearing from financial underdogs and underrepresented voices, and tackling stickier issues like the wage gap, emotional labor and breaking into the boys’ club.
That’s why The Fairer Cents was awarded a Plutus Award, the top honor in the personal finance community, as the best podcast for women, and been recommended by dozens of media outlets.
Kara Perez is the Millennial of the team and the founder of Bravely (@bravelygo), a community that gives women the financial tools to bridge the gap between their dreams and reality.
Tanja Hester is repping Gen X, and she’s the author of the book Work Optional: Retire Early the Non-Penny-Pinching Way, and the blog Our Next Life (@our_nextlife) about her and her husband’s journey to early retirement, which they achieved at the end of 2017 when she was 38.
We’re at different places in our financial journeys, but have a ton in common — and most of all, we just love talking (and sometimes ranting) about the challenges women face when it comes to money.
